Ok, ladies, for those of us who love braids, but have difficulty doing them. This tutorial will help create that ultimate braid!
So, I’ve been eyeing the Mason Pearson brushes for quite some time and have finally decided to take the plunge and purchase one. Mason Pearson is the enviable founder of the hand made rubber-cushion hairbrush. It was originally created in London in 1885 and Mason Pearson invented an automatic brush-boring machine to speedup the process of brush making. That same year he created the famous “pneumatic” rubber-cushion hairbrush. The technique was further improved but much was still done by hand.
After his death, his widow continued the business and was handed down to the next generation. Now, the focus is on the original idea of the rubber-cushion hairbrush. Still made similar to the original 1885 model and with improvements of the fully developed models of the 1920’s. With the product staying the same and model names of the brushes still being Large Extra, Small Extra, Popular and Junior.
Although a little more costly than your average brush, Mason Pearson brushes stand out for several reasons and it’s rare that another brush is in the same class. The rubber-cushion pad is made by hand and allows for effective and efficient brushing, but most of all it massages the scalp. The “Child” brush is designed to get a child used to hair brushing, since the scalp of a child is more sensitive than an adult.
Although the material in this particular brush is designed for people who have thinning or very fine hair. It’s the ultimate brush for this issue because it stimulates the scalp. It’s also good for men who are thinning on top.
Each pads are selected for the type of hair to be brushed, but generally follow as:
Pure Bristle brushes: For fine to normal hair, fine long hair.
The Models: Large Extra, Small Extra, Handy Bristle and Pocket Bristle.
The Sensitive models are for very fine or thinning hair.
The Child’s model for children aged between 3 and 6 years
Bristle & Nylon Mixture brushes: For normal and short thick hair.
The models: Popular, Junior, Handy Bristle & Nylon and Pocket Bristle & Nylon.
All Nylon brushes: For very thick hair
The models: Universal, Handy Nylon (Detangler) and Pocket Bristle and Nylon
Usually, the longer the hair the bigger the brush required. But, if you’re more comfortable with a smaller brush, you can always switch to use a smaller mixture model instead of a larger pure bristle one.
All in all, if you’re looking for a brush that lasts and is made with the best service, then a Mason Pearson brush is the brush for you. The product can be found at:

Have you ever worn your hair in a style that just didn’t fit your face shape? I love to wear my hair in a bun, but just realized the other day that the bun just does not not look good with my face shape. That sure did burst my bubble, what have I been thinking and doing this whole time? So, what do I did I do? I recruited the help of Monice Lopez at Nevaeh Salon, Boutique and spa in Roseville CA to help me find an up do hairstyle that suited my face other than the bun that I love so much. What I didn’t know, was that because I have an oval face shape and my forehead is a little more pronounced, by wearing the bun creates more of that widening of the face and just exposes it more. Monice told me that by wearing my bangs a little to the side and covering up my ears a little can slim and soften my face. So, what we decided to do was a side bun with my bangs swept to the side. She used their amazing new product line Oribe, which I have been dying to try. They are one of two local salons that is carrying these amazing hair products. Oribe, the “hair maestro” is widely known in the fashion world as the legend of runway hair. He has done runway shows from Chanel to top models such as Naomi Campbell to magazines such as Vogue. Oribe has perfected his products by have 5 manufactures for each of his products he carries. All of his hair care products are lightweight and leave no residue, not to mention they smell awesome. Monice started out by washing my hair with Oribe’s shampoo and conditioner, then used the Foundation Mist which is a heat protector and a leave in conditioner. To cut down on blow dry time she used and to help smooth my hair, she used the Royal Blow Out. Since I like to have my hair parted down the middle when I wear it down, she gave me a tip to off center the part to also aide in keeping the size of my face down. The end result was a great side bun that made me feel good for the first time about how my face looked. What I think I loved most was how informative Monice was about hairstyles that suit not only my face shape but others as well. She not only offered me other tips into softening my face but knew so much about the Oribe product line. I suggest that if you ever feel or think that maybe you’re not getting the most out of your current hairstyle, contact your stylist, or if you’re in the Roseville CA area, contact Monice at Nevaeh.comand to also find out more about the Oribe hair products check out Oribe.com
A new hair trend is sweeping the nation and it’s called the segmented ponytail. I remember wearing this trend when I was a kid back in the late 70’s early 80’s. But now it’s done with such flair and has been made so fashionable by Khloé Kardashian Heidi Klume and others. I love how it can be worn into two messy segmented ponytails or into one. I also love how it can be dressed up or down. Isn’t it so funny how hair trends from the past still make their way back into full circle eventually? With so many more hair trends sure to come, be quick with this one because I guarantee you this one is going to hit hard and leave as quick as it came.
I know I’m not the only one who finds it hard to get the perfect salon blow out at home. I wish I knew how to use the round brush and just roll and blow dry away, but I don’t. Nordstrom has a style bar that houses an Anastasia Brow Bar, manicure and pedicure bar and a blow out bar by Blow of New York. They have been featured in Elle Magazine and others. So I decided to give it a try since I needed a wash anyway. Monica was my stylist and was telling me that Blow specializes in blow outs and that I would be hooked. I asked the steps of how they obtain the perfect blow out with volume and softness.
Step 1. She started with the wash using the Blow shampoo and conditioner products.
Step 2. After washing, she used ready set blow express blow dry lotion by Blow Pro to prep for the blow dry
Step 3. She then sectioned my hair into 12 by twisting and clipping
Step 4. Each section was taken one by one by using a boar bristle round brush and dryed one by one
Step 5. After each section was dryed, she then rolled it back up and pinned it
Step 6. Once all the sections are dryed, she then took each part out and this is the end result
I wanted an updo braid, but I had to show off the amazing blow out, so I opted for 2 braids along each side and pinned.
So, Monica was right, I am hooked. This is whole heartedly, the best blow out I’ve had in a while. I have several appointments booked in advanced now. If you’re ever in New York go to Blow or if your local Nordstrom has the style bar, you must try it.
There is a new hair treatment in town and it’s available to us all! Our hair is THE most major part of who we are and that’s what everyone notices when they see us. Hormones, stress, age, environment and other factors can affect our hair growth and how we perceive ourselves. There are many products on the market claiming to increase hair growth and thicken hair, but I recently came across a product that can actually do so, and naturally called Phylia de M.,an organic cell and keratin renewal system. I’ve experienced a slower than usual growth of my hair from stress and if the combination of ancient Aztec and Mayan herbal remedies along with modern science can help my hair grow fast and thicker, why would I not try this product? The combination encourages your own body’s own natural ability to renew cells and restore keratin. Shop and learn more at Phylia de M

As an avid proponent for hair color, highlights etc., I know how harsh all of these chemicals can be to our hair. Especially since I’ve been wearing the ombré look for the past year. When having this style it requires the ends to be bleached and then either colored or toned for a more blonde look. I’ve gone from a more burgundy/ red hue on my ends to more currently a copper with blonde tones on my ends.
A few weeks ago I decided to go lighter and I knew the ramifications came along with it as well. With my decision I really dried my ends out and was really irritated and frustrated with how they looked. I had started the coconut oil treatments and using the keratin shampoo and conditioner and that really turned it around quick. But I was still looking for a spray oil that I could leave in my hair after shampooing and before and after styling.
I had seen Bamboo Kendi Oil by Alterna at Sephora several times and finally decided to buy it. It has been the best spray oil I have ever used, especially with the amount of chemical treatments I get done to my hair. I’ve tried so many and have never been this happy with a spray oil. The line comes in several different products ranging anywhere from shampoo to hairspray. I purchased the dry oil micromist and the dry oil mist. I wanted to see what the difference was each oil. The micromist is more fine and works more like an hairspray and the mist is good for sections of the hair. They both work with the same concept; smooth, soft hair.
Pick some up at your nearest Sephora or Sephora.com to experience what I have, a major turn around in dry hair.
