Oh my goodness, this looks like the best recipe for an iced coffee. It’s perfect for that hot summer day or night, sitting on the patio, by the swimming pool and relaxing with this amazing drink…….. AHHHH, summer, how I love you.
I remember the very first time I visited Crumbs Bake Shop in Beverly Hills Ca. I was in cupcake heaven! Here were these huge, muffin size cupcakes that had names like ‘grasshopper’, and were actually decorated to resemble the color of a grasshopper and with a mound of dirt. But the best part was that it was eatable, eatable heaven of chocolate, Oreo crumbs and mini chocolate chips.
Unfortunately, today it was announced that Crumbs Bake Shop will be shutting down all 48 of its stores across the country. The New York based company has fell victim to the once cupcake craze that has fizzled out.
Per a statement from the WSJ “Regrettably Crumbs has been forced to cease operations and is immediately attending to the dislocation of its employees while it evaluates its limited remaining options,” the company said in an emailed statement. That will include filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
The husband and wife team of Jason and Mia Bauer started this one of a kind cupcake shop in 2003, but due to underperforming stores, this rough economy, and a steep decline in sales, it had to cease their operations. Crumbs is not the only cupcakery that has been forced to close its doors, here locally, several cupcake shops have been also been forced to close its doors.
Farewell dear Crumbs, I will miss your fabulous cupcakes.

Ok, ok, so I know the French Macaron craze has been taken to a whole new level and maybe a bit over done. But how can you not love these amazing pile of grounded almonds, egg whites and sugar? I tried my hand at making these a few years back and I’m not going to lie, it was a bit extensive, but none the less, they were good. No matter how so yesterday they are, my love for French Macarons will never die. Just look at these amazing oversized French Macaron ice cream sandwiches, I’d kill to have one of these now!!! Too bad it’s in Ohio….. Oh well, maybe I can try to make some myself? It can happen….
I bought these which are now available at my local Whole Foods Market!

I always try to support the locally owned coffee shops because they tend to have specialty drinks and food items. I mean don’t get me wrong, I like Starbucks and Peet’s coffee and Tea, but I tend to be different from the norm. I like different choices in what I drink, and this is where it’s leading…. There is a wonderful coffee and food establishment in my town called Coffee Republic. The moment you walk into this place you feel transported to a coffee trading post in Colombia or Guatemala. There is distressed wood and brick throughout the cafe and you can virtually see the tubs of different coffees from around different regions of the world. They also have on display a huge roaster that they use to roast there one of many coffees. On their tables are actual burlap bags from the coffee. But now let’s get down to why I actually love this place.. From the choice of specialty coffee drinks down to their pastries makes them stand out from th typical coffee cafe. I personally can’t drink cows milk, so I drink almond milk or coconut milk; get this, they give you the option of either one of those milks too!! Their breakfast and lunch menu are to die for. I love to eat their oatmeal because they change it up all the time, from fresh berries to actual cheesecake bites in the oatmeal! It’s garnished with brown sugar a little bit of butter and whatever treat they decide to add to it. Their choice of sandwiches vary from turkey with Havarti cheese to tuna melts. Salads are also on the menu. Now their pastries…. Heaven; pies, cookies, macaroons, coffee cakes and more. Coffee Republic also offers specialty tea drinks as well that are made fresh from the many choices of tea leaves. Like the Thai coconut tea.. Which is made up of fresh black tea, coconut syrup, and cream.. Amazing.. As you can see I could go on and on about this place but to experience it would be better.
Most weekends we go out dinner to the restaurants around town. There are a few that we frequent and one is Chicago Fire. Chicago Fire is an authentic Chicago style pizza restaurant that once you walk in you automatically see the brick walls with paintings of great jazz legends, great big windows, mahogany booths and all mahogany tables. The lighting is dim and as you’re sitting at your table or waiting for your table, you get transported to a authentic Chicago style restaurant listening to that great jazz lounge music. The ambiance is amazing and the pizza….. You have two options, either a traditional Chicago deep dish pizza or a thin crust pizza. We always opt for the thin crust. Not only is pizza on the menu, but salads, Greek fries which are thin cut fries loaded with garlic, Parmesan cheese and parsley. There is also the option for buffalo wings, grilled artichoke, calamari and more. We absolutely love going there and we obviously aren’t the only ones because there is always at least a 20-40 min wait. But the wait is worth it and we always have a great time at dinner.
